GUIDE: How to Crack Passworded .rar Files

Password Cracking Tutorial

Looking for a password?  Try this first!


Step one: Download this:

Note: If you already have a password cracker with "dictionary mode" then you can skip to step three.
Note2: If your torrent is not a rar file you should use the ARCHPR, rather than the rar pass recovery.
Note3: If the torrent appears dead, it's not.  It's just the trackers I used not reporting properly.

Step two: Install the application, either one is fine, it's up to you.  Follow the instructions provided in the torrent.
Step two A: If you picked "ARCHPR v3.01.7" then go to this directory: "C:\Program Files\ElcomSoft\ARCHPR" and create a new text document (Do this by right click, select "new", then "new text document")  Now go to step 3.
Step two B: If you picked "rar password recovery" then go to this directory: "C:\Program Files\Intelore\RAR-PR" and create a new text document (Do this by right click, select "new", then "new text document")  Now go to step 3.

Step three::  Copy the latest pass list into this new text document and save it as "passlist.dic" (the latest pass lists will be located at the bottom of the guide.)

Step four A:  If you installed "ARCHPR v3.01.7" then this is how to begin the crack:
This is the main window:

1. Change "type of attack" to "dictionary"
2. Click on the tab that says "dictionary"
3. Change the "dictionaty file path" to "C:\Program Files\ElcomSoft\ARCHPR\passlist.dic"
4. Make sure that the "Start line #" space is empty.
5. Now, in the "Encrypted ZIP/RAR/ACE/ARG-file" area click the little folder, and select your passworded .rar file.
6. Press "Start !"

Step four B:  If you installed "rar password recovery" then this is how to begin the crack:
This is the main screen:

1. Click on the dictionary tab.
2. Change the "Wordlist file name" box to "C:\Program Files\Intelore\RAR-PR\passlist.dic"
3. Make sure the "Start from line #" box is set to "1"
4. Click on the "open" button, and open up your passworded .rar file.
5. Press the "start" button.

Step five: Wait and hope
If all goes well, in a few minutes the torrent will be cracked, and you will be happy.

Ooook change of plans.  The dictionary was so large it was annihilating the thread, so it will now be an attachment.  Download it, open it up, and use the contents of the text file as your dictionary.

note: You want to click on the download button.  Right click>save as will not work to get the file.
note2: IE6 users may have a problem getting the file.  I will look for some kind of file host for it....
